The new smoking law coins a new verb: Smirting

Smirting: (smoke + flirting) To go outside of a bar or restaurant where you can't smoke and hang out with other fellow smokers while you flirt with them.

Smirting was first identified in New York in 2003,and spread to the Republic of Ireland in 2004 when an aggressive smoking ban in public places was enacted.

Smirting has been so successful that non-smokers try to mingle with the smirters. The non-smokers may then start to smoke too and so this is a health risk

Sociologist and sexologist Pepper Schwartz states that the smirters are "defiant and angry, they don't buy the second-hand smoke argument, and want to share this grudge with someone else." When they are forced outside, smirters form strong bonds in what is essentially an exile community.
But this exile community has its rewards. One study found that 25% of Irish couples who had started a relationship during 2007 or 2008 had met while smoking outside.
(Taken from Wikipedia)

Apart from smirting, what positive and negative aspects can you see in this law?

Hi Rosa! I think this law has good things and bad things. One of the nice things is that people know and clothing that does not smell smoke and one of the bad things is that those who smoke have to go out in the cold or heat on the street; And Rosa and I can not think of anything else.
A big kiss!!!

In my opinion, the new law of snuff has many more negative consequences than positive. Adversely affects not only smokers, if not the bar owners who will lose much money on past reforms and investments that no longer serve. The only positive I see in this law is that some people may well be encouraged to quit snuff and other do not have that breathing smoke.

one of the things for which I do not smoke it is because that nonsmokers do not swallow the smoke

one thing against it is that smokers have to get out into the street and lose the pub business

one of the good things that has this law is that non smokers have no reason to swallow the smoke from other smokers

One of the drawbacks of this law is that smokers have to step outside to smoke and have cold or heat and lose the pub clientele.

In my opinion, the new law has so much bad as good.
The bad things are that bars and restaurants have already lost a lot of money by the old law of snuff and now can not use at all the reforms made.
Good things are that nonsmokers will not have to breathe smoke when they are in bars or around schools and hospitals.

In my opinion, a good reason would be that the clothes do not smell smoke in bars, discos, clubs ... Also it is good for the health of the barman.
A bad reason is that bar owners will notice that the clientele is not the same. Some people ivan to bars to chat and smoke a cigar with friends, but now they do not want to go to the street, but people will get used.

Hi Rosa!
In my opinion the new smoke-free has positives and negatives.
The positive things I see is that non-smokers can go to bars, clubs ... and that his clothes do not smell smoke and it will haven't enduring the discomfort created by the smoke from someone who is smoking nearby.
The negative I see is smoke-free law that bars and clubs will lose many customers and therefore enough money.

The new law appears to snuff me well because many waiters die passive smoking. It seems wrong because the bars will lose money because smokers are not going to spend much time in a bar without being able to smoke.

Anonymous said...

A good thing is that those who do not smoke do not have to bear the smoke of anybody and a bad thing is that it loses the bars to many people because the people who smokes cannot be with his friends in the bar because they have to go out to smoke out.

Hello Rosa!

In my opinion the positive aspects are more than negative aspects.

Between the first are by now the children and the passive smoking not breath the bad smoke.

In the seconds are that now are more butts in the streets.

Bye !

Hi Rosa!!!

I think this is a law that is doing much to talk.

One advantage of this law is that non-smokers can be free of smoke and help smokers to have another reason to quit.

One of the drawbacks is that smokers have to leave the premises to go smoke outside. Other thing is that bars have to spend money to accommodate areas outside the local heating and i put this requires an expenditure of money.

This is my opinion from my point of view.

Greetings Rosa!!!
